Country Cody Johnson

Country Music superstar Cody Johnson

There’s not many big names in Country Music from Texas that are quite making head waves like Cody Johnson. And not many that are breaking Country Music barriers by keeping Country Music more traditional and not so mainstream Pop on Country radio. In my opinion, Cody is the new George Strait when it comes to authentic, raw, heartfelt, traditional Country Music. Not many people are doing what’s he done when it comes to really putting in the hard work, according to BMI’s Josh Tomlinson who quotes, “Your willingness to put in the work to get here today has only been accomplished by a select few…”.

Thus far in his few short years since hitting the big time back in 2019 with major label Warner Music Nashville, Johnson has already released three successful albums (2016’s Gotta Be Me, 2019’s Ain’t Nothin’ To It, and 2021’s Human: The Double Album), released his own documentary on Apple TV+, and has recently racked up multiple nominations at this years approaching CMA Awards.

But let’s touch on his latest Human: The Double Album, that released nearly a year ago October 8, 2021. The record was produced by Trent Williams (Kevin Fowler). Cody says in an interview with Forbes back in 2021 about the album, “There’s not a single song on this album that’s a filler. When you’ve got 18 tracks, you’ve got to know each one of those tracks was recorded for a purpose”. Nashville music critics have described the album as an “artistic statement”.

Some of my favorite songs off Human, would be “Known For Loving You”, “Sad Songs & Waltzes (duet with Willie Nelson)”, and the most popular, “Til’ You Can’t”. Cody is not your everyday Country artist whose chasing No. 1’s or constant Country radio, he personally quotes: “We all have the same struggles whether it’s a rodeo story or a loved one you’ve lost or a job you didn’t get,” says Johnson. “Maybe 2020 is what’s giving you your Dear Rodeo story, or some people might be right in the middle of theirs. No matter how many problems you have, no matter how many issues you have, no matter whether you’re a borderline sit-on-the-fence Christian, God doesn’t care about that, he just wants you to give him the glory and let him be involved in shaping your life. And I think that’s a huge testimony for any of us to hear.”

All in all, Cody Johnson is a force to be reckoned with. He’s willing to break career records by the billions, and take the road less traveled and become successful while doing it. His prior record Ain’t Nothing To It ended up going gold status. He has one Platinum RIAA certification, & three gold additional RIAA certifications under his belt. Check out Human: The Double Album, it’s sure to not disappoint.
