The One & Only Luke Combs

Luke Combs has been a solidified favorite of mine in Country Music, ever since he first took Nashville by storm with hits like “You Got the Best of Me”, “Hurricane”, and “When It Rains It Pours” — a few off his certified Platinum debut album This One’s For You, released back in 2016. Luke Combs is a freak of nature, both vocally and musically in my book, and is one of the most successful new acts in today’s Country Music. Going from a struggling nobody in his home town of North Carolina, to successful Platinum-selling act, to a Grammy-nominated artist, and officially now an Academy of Country Music “Entertainer of the Year” solidified recipient — the sky is the limit for this multi-talent.

Here we go blasting into another incredible album from this megastar. Luke released his fourth full studio album Gettin’ Old, his follow up LP to last years Growin’ Up. The new album features a total of 18 tracks, whereas 2022’s Growin’ Up only featured 12 official songs. The only two songs — out of the 18 — that Luke did not write on were “Where the Wild Things Are” and “My Song Will Never Die,” both songs having been written for by songwriters Randy Montana and Dave Turnbil. However, my early favorites off this full-length LP are “You Found Yours”, “Still”, “A Song Was Born”, “Fast Car”, “Growin’ Up and Gettin’ Old”, “Love You Anyway”, amongst many. Surprisingly, “Fast Car” is a remake of artist Tracy Chapman’s original version of the same name.

Combs says of “Gettin’ Old”, “This album is about the stage of life I’m in right now. One that I’m sure a lot of us are in, have been through, or will go through. It’s about coming of age, loving where life is now but at the same time missing how it used to be, continuing to fall for the one you love and loving them no matter what, living in the moment but still wondering how much time you have left”. In my opinion, I think this is one of Luke’s most soulful Country albums to date. The album released on March 24, 2023 via Sony Music Nashville (Tim McGraw, Adam Doleac, Kameron Marlowe).

To continue, this is to be one of the best album to come from 2023, as this year finishes out. The overall theme for this record is “less about getting older than they are or daily navigating adulthood, to more about grappling with the challenges of aging. To coincide about the theme of the album, the leading track off this LP, “Growin’ Up and Getting Old” is an anthem that talks of how far Luke has come in his life journey, while at the same time still reminding himself to have fun and be in the moment.

Gettin’ Old is available everywhere music is streamed or available for purchase.
